Get ready for a Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt hurricane at the box office. As expected, Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt starrer Gully Boy has taken a good start at the box office in the morning shows. – Gully boy box office collection day 1
According to a report in Box office India, while Gully Boy is good all over, it has taken a blockbuster start in cities like Mumbai and Pune.
The occupancy rate is around 40-45% in the morning shows. In fact, the occupancy rate is even bigger Padmavati, which was much bigger in scale and released last year on Republic Day.
The fact that today is Valentine’s Day has helped the prospects of the movie further at the box office. So far it seems like the movie might rake in around Rs 20 crore on its opening day.
The occupancy is expected to go even higher in the evening shows as the reviews of the film are extremely positive and the word of mouth from the general audience too is extremely phenomenal.
The report also states that while the opening at major multiplexes in metro cities is of the blockbuster level, the same can’t be said about the mass circuits. The opening at the mass circuit is quite low.
The movie is expected to have a great weekend at the box office. The icing on the cake is that it’s going to be a 4-day weekend. Looking at the occupancy and reactions, it won’t come as a surprise if Gully Boy hits a century over its 4-day weekend itself.
Gully boy box office collection day 1
The Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt-starrer big-ticket film Gully Boy released on Thursday to overwhelming response at the box-office. In some circuits, the musical drama, directed by Zoya Akhtar, registered an occupancy of over 80 per cent, which is mind-boggling given the fact that it did not feature the quintessential elements of a mass entertainer.
According to a report on Box Office India, Gully Boy is competing with biggies such as Thugs of Hindostan, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Baahubali 2 (Hindi), Sanju and Singham Returns in the Mumbai and Pune circuits.
The report says that Thugs of Hindostan had opened with collections of Rs 3.75 crore and Rs 1.95 crore in Mumbai and Pune respectively. For Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and Baahubali 2 (Hindi), the opening-day collections in Mumbai and Pune were close to Rs 3.50 crore and Rs 1.90 crore each, respectively.
Sanju and Singham Returns, the report claims, had scored Rs 3.20 crore and Rs 3.40 crore in Mumbai on their respective opening days. Gully Boy, on the other hand, may end up minting Rs 3 crore from the Maximum City alone on Day 1.
The figure speaks volumes about the craze that Mumbaikars have for the film. The fact that it tells the story of a Dharavi-based street rapper and has the chaste Bambaiya touch to it has clearly worked in its favour.
Gully Boy, also starring Kalki Koechlin, Vijay Raaz and Siddhant Chaturvedi in important roles, received mostly positive reviews upon its release. The word of mouth for the film is fantastic.
